SWIFT tests XRP and HBAR to enhance cross-border payment efficiency, Ripple predicts a 14% share within 5 years.
[Coin World] The Global Banking Financial Telecommunication Association ( SWIFT ) is testing XRP and HBAR to enhance its cross-border payment infrastructure. SWIFT is experimenting with the integration of Ripple ( XRP ) and Hedera ( HBAR ) as part of its efforts to improve its cross-border payment infrastructure. The compatibility of XRP and HBAR with the ISO 20022 financial messaging standard is prompting consideration for the use of these two technologies.
Latest news: SWIFT is testing blockchain-based XRP and HBAR cross-border payments to improve efficiency and interoperability. The future of global payments is being built.
It is said that SWIFT's pilot test focuses on two specific technologies: Ripple's On-Demand Liquidity (ODL), which uses XRP as a bridge currency to facilitate faster transfers; and Hedera's hashgraph consensus mechanism, known for its high throughput and energy efficiency. For reference, traditional SWIFT transfers may take 1-5 business days, with costs ranging from $10 to $50 per transaction, while XRP transactions typically settle within 3-5 seconds at a cost of about $0.0002. Meanwhile, Hedera can process up to 10,000 transactions per second.
Previously, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse predicted at the XRP Ledger Apex 2025 event held in Singapore that the XRP Ledger could capture 14% of SWIFT's global liquidity in five years, stating: "SWIFT currently has two components - messaging and liquidity. Liquidity is owned by banks. I think less about messaging and more about liquidity. If you drive all the liquidity, that's a good thing for XRP. So, in five years, I would say 14%."
These reports coincide with another significant development from Ripple. The company announced today that it will begin distributing its RLUSD stablecoin in Japan in the first quarter of next year.
